The times were:
Ram 1500, 3.6L V6, 3.21 axle, 8 speed auto:
0-60 = 7.6s, 1/4 mile = 15.8s
F150 shortbed reg cab, 3.7L V6, 3.55 axle, 6 speed auto:
0-60 = 7.4s, 1/4 mile = 15.7s
It still boggles my mind that 1/2 ton pickups with ENTRY-LEVEL engines are almost as fast as "muscle cars" of 25 or so years ago.
Good reason why I laugh when people insist you must have a V8 half ton.
These V6 trucks would run circles around the big block Ford 460 / Chevy 454 or yesteryear. Even loaded the old trucks would have zero chance keeping up, the hp simply isn't there. And the 8 / 6 speed transmission easily makes up for any lack of torque.
1992 Chevy 454SS:
0-60 = 7.2s, 1/4 mile = 15.8s
And one that can actually tow and haul?
Consumer's report list 1990-98 RCSB Chevy trucks as 3849 lbs. Add 200-300 lbs for the Bigblock and you're barely over 4000. A Pentastar weighting 5300+ lbs matches it in the 1/4 mile. Still not impressed?
