help identifing 60's TT

I have inherited my wanderlust, from my grandfather. Recently came across these pictures of my grandparents' TT. I think this one was purchased about the time my grandfather retired in the mid60's. I am not exactly sure when. The film was developed and pictures printed in Oct 1968, by the date marked on the edge of the print. I am trying to determine what this TT was.

The two pictures were made at different locations. It may have been the same time of the year, but the locations are marked. This one was made at St Andrews State Park in Panama City.

This second one is marked at Pine Mountain, but I am pretty sure it was at FDR State Park in Pine Mountain GA and not at a private park.

I have other pictures but these two show the trailer the best. I cannot read the writing on the back of the one, because I have not idea of what the word might be. These are prints that are nearly 50 years old, so the scan is as good as it gets..

Any suggestions as to what the trailer might be? I really would like to mark them for my family. Only my mother, who also inherited the wanderlust, understands my desire to fulltime in the next few years.

  • Did you take a magnifier to that first picture, or try edge enhancement on the scan? Looks like "Discovery" on my screen. That could be the model, or it could be the name of the manufacturer. There were hundreds of manufacturers around the U.S. in the 1950s and 60s, many selling only regionally or locally.

Other manufacturers have used that name since, most notably Fleetwood for a line of motorhomes, SunLite in the 1990s, NuWa for one of their Hitchhiker models. Yours is none of those.

We bought a Corsair in 1961, I don't know that the company survived the RV industry collapse following the early '70s oil embargo, but the brand name was still around in the '80s, being used by a different manufacturer. Discovery is a much more suitable name for a RV, more companies will have used it, so expect some false trails as you try to track it down.

I would look first at manufacturers who were building in the southeast in the 1950s and 60s.
  • Could it be a Starcraft? The back hatch looks pretty familiar. Starcraft has great customer support. I gave them a call one day and within seconds had the brochure and owners manual for my '71 in my Email INbox. You could maybe give them a call and ask for that model year's brochures. The brochures will have pictures and the layouts described.
    Good luck!
  • Curious to see the pictures of it in it's present state. Kewl that ya got something passed down to you from your grandfather. What are your plans with it?
