Coming from someone with experience towing a 4000+lbs, 24' TT with a mid-size V6 SUV (and still have the same rig today), I would say that since you're starting from scratch, go with the most capable tow vehicle that you can comfortably use as a daily driver.  Something rated to tow 6500 lbs or more would be good for a 4000lbs loaded trailer. Personally, we are looking to move up to a 1/2-ton body (Suburban, Yukon XL, Armada, etc) when we're ready to buy the next tow vehicle.  Our old Pathfinder is adequate, but on the long road trips, especially through hills and with a strong headwind,  running over 4000rpms to maintain speed while getting 7.5 mpg's starts to get old...
