I have a World Friendship converter model WP-8955 PEC
The 8955 is notorious for not going into boost mode (14.4v) and tends to hang up in normal (13.6v) and just provides a trickle charge even though it is capable of 60 amps. If the 8955 does hit boost it would overload the 1000 generator.
Test at home and see what the WFCO does. Leave a light on until the battery gets to 12.0-12.2 zone. Then plug in and watch the voltage. Boost will steadily increase to 14.0+ volts over 20 to 60 minutes. More likely you will just see 13.4 to 13.6 volts.
I recommend the PowerMax MBA designed to replace the WFCO board.
For a 1000va generator get the 35 amp board. 45 amp is fine with 2 or 3 batteries and you will want the 55a with 4+ batteries and of course the larger 2000va generator to drive it.

You could also pick up a 40 amp portable that will charge fine with 1000 or 2000 generator. I recommend the Black and Decker portable. But I prefer the converter replacement.
