Help! Need new awning

Last year my husband left me and kids to camp by ourselves while he was on a business trip. I forgot to put one side of the awning lower and surprise-surprise we had a torrential rain overnight and destroyed our awning (rookie move, I know). The local RV place wants to charge us about $1700 for a new manual-awning. My pride and my checkbook won't let me pay that much for my mistake. The arms and rail on our awning are still good. we have a 2006 Sydney Outback by Keystone. We're told we have the "older style arms" that AE/Dometic made I don't have a model number for our awning as it was thrown away after the rainfall disaster. I'm hoping I can find the type of awning we need to match our older style arms so I don't have to buy both the awning and the hardware which is what the RV company wants to sell us. I have pictures but looks like I can't upload them to the thread. I think an 8500 is what I need vs the sunchaser model by dometic. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  • The funniest thing I ever saw in a campground was when the guy next to me--a noob who I had helped get unhitched when he arrived the previous day--left his awning flat in a rainstorm, and came out in the morning to find the fabric stretched to the limit, holding probably 20 gallons of water in one corner. He dropped the awning arm, and all the water poured out onto his head. Every drop. Chilly morning, too.

I tried not to laugh, but failed miserably.
