I am "not" suggesting you do not buy a 4x4; however it does not "upgrade" your tow capacity.
In fact its the opposite. Identically equipped 2 or 4 wheel drives will see a higher tow rating by a couple hundred pounds on the 2 wheel drive. Its comes down to tow vehicle weight.
The advantages are great "if" you can use them on a 4x4.
I got by fine with my V10 as a 2 wheel drive for 12 years living where 99% of trucks are 4x4.
Only had to get towed twice, both times were in Florida.:h
