Looks like it might be to go on a compact pickup, like a small Toyota pickup from years back?
The pop-out side is interesting. We rented a 4x4 camper in Namibia that had a similar arrangement, but the sides of the pop-out section were canvas rather than fibreglass.
I notice the lift-up tailgate with the rear door in it - I guess for those who want to keep this on their truck and still carry stuff inside.
