In my opinion you're dead wrong about the Equal-i-zer hitch doing "almost nothing". I pull a 26' BH (no slide) with an Excursion (there is no way in hell that my TV isn't big enough and you won't find anyone that says its not) and I notice a TREMENDOUS difference towing with my EQ hitch vs. w/o it!
Heath,
This is not a thread about hitches, it is about trailers. The OP in my response was defending the smallish tow vehicle and large trailer with others prior to me jumping in; and, in retrospect I am sorry for trying to help. My position about the EQ hitch comes from towing on the ball and with the hitch with no perceptable difference. A well balanced trailer does not need sway mitigation and if you find a tremendous difference with the hitch you might look to other causes. I am not trying to be a 'know it all'; just posting what I have experienced with the EQ hitch. Your experience may be different and if it works for you and you are happy, that is all that counts.
Most trailers are delivered from the factory to the dealer on the ball. The delivery guys know that if 10 percent is on the tongue the trailer will not sway. Most on this forum recommend around 13 percent. So if your trailer is well balanced and you have tongue weight consistent with 10-13 percent and the hitch makes a tremendous difference, I would look to what the hitch is fixing. Something is amiss somewhere. Think about this. Your trailer was likely delivered on the ball from the factory and that might have been hundreds or thousands of miles with no issues. Why now does the hitch make a tremendous difference especially on your heavy duty stout tow vehicle?
