High-tech, or ____ ____ engineering

What happens when a semi-retired engineer has a spare one of these -

And a spare one of these -

And one of these -

And one of these -

And perhaps a little extra time to waste. He makes one of these -

A popup roof crank that takes half the effort. And since it wasn't very hard to start with -- well, at least it's a lot cheaper than an electric roof. And now my wife can do it easily (if she ever agrees to go with me).
Yeah - I know. Others have made much more sophisticated cranks. I did say 'a little extra time'.
  • I'll take one!!! When I get the canoe and other junk on the roof those first couple cranks are tough!!

    How much you got?

    You go first.

  • I miss the crank up roof. We have electric now, and it moves like a snail. With the crank, on hot evenings when it started cooling off, we'd "stroke" the roof a couple times, and presto - ambient temp inside the camper. Good for moving dust bunnies too.
  • Dang I so thought you were going to take the sawzall apart to use the motor to crank the lift.
    Maybe next time :B
  • Nothing wrong with a little ingenuity! Sometimes the easiest solutions are the best.
