highlander 2015 awd towing jayco hybrid w/ stabilizer hitch

I want to buy a highlander with factory towing package and would like to know if anyone tows a similar travel trailer and what problems, if any, you have had. We don't want top of the line accessories in SUV and need to know if this is a good idea or not.

We've towed the same trailer with a Tacoma V-6 with no problems, but need to buy a new vehicle and want the extra seating capacity for our grandkids.

  • The newer Highlander is not the capable tow vehicle, that the previous years were.
Now unibody and with only a towing capacity of 5000lbs., it is limited to only smaller hybrids now.

Huh?? Can you explain the above?

The highlander has always been a unibody design, based on the Camry, and 5,000lbs is the highest tow rating available, ever. The larger overall size of the current model and the highest output in engines since it's inception makes the current Highlander the most capable of any.

I will agree that it is still limited to only smaller hybrids.

  • Give us a model name/number, something to go on, for the hybrid you have in mind. We need to know the weight, the outer dimensions, that sort of thing.
  • What exactly is a similar trailer? Jayco makes several different hybrids that vary greatly in size and weight. Some suitable for towing with a Highlander, but most would not be.
  • I tow an Ascend 171RD with my 2011 Highlander and it is adequate. a Tacoma would be better. dry weight of TT is about 3529 lbs.
