Sometimes, all that is necessary is put the truck in neutral for a second and then in park and set the brake - anything that you need to do to release the pressure on the front or back of the coupler. This is especially true in cases where the truck or trailer is on an incline like a driveway or some campsites.

I do similar to this. I also carry a rubber mallet that I use to rap on the side of the coupler just in case a little more encouragement is needed to release the ball.
