Nice to see that somebody else does this too. I get strange looks when I do it when we have guests.

It would be easy to make an opening in the top of the cabinet if there isn't one already.

I figured I would just open the cabinet door next to it if I was doing anything for a long time in it. I may cut a vent in the bottom of the cabinet.

I don't think so. Theres no ventS on the top. And it's not like I'm cooking a turkey in it.

Whenever I use the mike to "bake" potatoes. there is a significant amount of heat from AROUND the mike. Restricted air circulation would be a concern to me.

We did that in an old travel trailer but replacing the built in one that came with it that died. The new one didn't last long either til I drilled vent holes in the cabinet around IT'S replacement. In the TC when I installed the micro in the cabinet I made real sure it had plenty of air space around the one I purchased. Used TV glue down anchors at the corners and use a nylon strap across the front during transit. It's been fine in that spot for the past year and a half.

You might want to check your instructions and see how much clearance is specified on the sides, top, and back.

Me, I wouldn't be without a microwave. It gets far more use than the stove or oven.
