Homemade Backup Cam

So as we were getting ready to head to the beach last weekend. I realized how aggravated I get hooking up the trailer when the golf cart is on the back of the truck. Back up a little and check, move to the right a little and check....you all know the drill. So I had an idea, borrowed my 2 year olds iPod and Facetime called my phone. Bam! Instant back up cam!

  • I can FaceTime with mine anywhere, his has to have wifi, fortunately my router is powerful enough to put out a good signal in the driveway. Didn't work at the beach, campground wifi was so busy so the DW was re-enlisted to her backup duties!
  • The only problem is if your break the phone or driveover it the cost is 4X the cost of the back up cam.
    My vote is the cam
  • I'm a tightwad (most of the time) and this works til I talk myself into buying a sure enough camera!
  • That's a great idea! I think I will be trying this next weekend.
  • Great idea. Thanks for sharing, I plan to use your idea with the next solo hook up.

I use my wife's iPhone and mine when setting up my sat dish. I point hers at the tv screen with the sat boxed tuned to the point dish page. Use facetime and watch on my iPhone as I fine tune the dish position to get the best signal. There is a delay so I make small changes and then wait for the picture (and sound) to catch up.
