NOTHING is as quiet as a Honda, period.You can stare at that cheap knock-off generator all you want, tilt your head to one side, and say, "It's not that loud," but you're in a state of denial.The real question is, do you care? The cheap knock-offs are still not as loud as a contractor generator by a long shot. Already, the noise police are all over this post. :hIn the first place, I don't feel that the "yellow" one is a knock-off. It's a quality generator with good customer support. Yes, Honda's are quiet, BUT, how are you going to use it ? If you intend on running it between the hours of 7pm to 10am then your neighbors are probably not going to be happy with you. If you aren't. All generators make noise, even red or blue especially when powering heavy loads. The 3K Champion inverter you listed is obviously a better bang for the buck and with remote start, it certainly saves the hassle of getting in and out of your rig to stop and start unit. Whatever genny you plan to use while camping amongst other campers, it is wise to utilize it as little as possible. Having a couple of batteries or more and a good quality inverter allows the use of tvs, dvd players, laptops among many other devices without requiring your genny to drone on endlessly.In these camping scenarios we run our genny about an hour or two every other day to quickly replenish consumed amphours via our Iota converter, we do have solar as well but these heavily populated campgrounds are not always conducive for effective charging from our solar array. Boondocking allows us to benefit greatly from solar if sun is out in full force and out west where we camp that is usually the norm.

I'm guessing you think it's the open frame model?? You are wrong. It's Champion's inverter model and if both units where powering a 13.5k btu a/c next to you you would want the Champion doing it not the screaming Honda.

Regarding can they be paralleled? Not sure on that.

get the cheap generator but don't run it next to me. i've had several experiences where rvers get a noisy generator and want their neigbhor, me to listen to it for hours.

and, at times, some 2K hondas will start and maybe run a 13.5K a/c but not very well and it is noisy.

Owners of the Champion 3100i (and 3100w) seem to love them, in fact love them more than their Honda 2000i.

I had a Champion 2000 Inverter, it would not start my 9200btu a/c. I replaced it with a Honda 2000 and it runs it in eco mode.

I believe Champion is a bit optimistic with there ratings. I was happy with the Champion up to this point, it never gave me any trouble. I do like the 'footprint' of the Honda better too.

I've got two Champion 2000w inverter generators that I parallel together if I want to run the air conditioner, but I usually take one of them along with me to power up anything I need to use. I've compared both the Champion and Honda and the Champion is just as quiet as the Honda at a fraction of the cost. I only use it sparingly when I need to so as not to bother any other neighboring campers near by. When I boondock and no one's around me I'll fire it up for longer periods of time.

I have the champion 3100 and have had people at the campground say how quiet it was. It starts my 11000 btu ac on the eco mode. It starts on the first pull and is very easy on gas.

Is 3100 watt all you will ever need/want? At some point you might want to parallel and get more power. Can you parallel the 3100? The 2k can be hooked to another 2k.

Noise wise, depends a lot on where you will be using it. If the noise don't bother you and you will not want to increase your power I would go with the Champion.

I think the comparison should be with a honda/yamaha 2600 or so one that would run an AC. yep, a honda 1000 is quieter/lighter, etc. but won't run anything.
