Anything used to "lock" a generator to a tree or anything else can be defeated in 10 seconds or less. Metabo with a diamond blade. I like the covered generator idea above, well done. Out of sight, out of mind. Once that cover comes off, its less than 10 seconds and the generator is gone. Two quick cuts.
I spend time thinking over my front hitch mount.
Honda 3000 has rubber feet hold by metric bolts.
I cut the holding frame with no space for hacksaw access, the main tube has locking pin in the receiver, while generator feet are not only having metric fasteners, but they are hidden inside the tubing with additional cover. Not saying that hanging few inches above the ground it is easy access.
So no chain, no locks (beside the hitch) yet it would take several minutes for thief-to-be to figure out how to approach the mount and he would have to have 10 MM socket for it as well.
Just like a member above screw his frame with mixed torx and square heads screws.
To top it, using generator mounts I don't have ugly frame covering generator and it is all on rubber bushings for vibration dampening.
It is not that you have to cut anything, but will take you long time to gather necessary tools if you'd like to steal the generator.
