Keep an eye on payload if you go with a 250 / 2500 diesel. Those engines are heavy and you can end up with a modest payload that may leave you short. My buddy's 2012 Chevy 2500 diesel has 1500 lbs of payload which would likely not be enough for your application. With a gas engine the 250 / 2500 has more payload left for your trailer and gear.
