I'm towing 9200lbs with a V-10. I have no issues with power, and my mileage hovers between 8 and 8.5. Yes an older diesel will get better mileage. Newer diesels don't get the mileage the older ones get. I'm happy with my gas engine, and I don't see a need for a diesel. When i bought my X back in 06 it had 17k miles on it (paid$19k), a compareable diesel was 5-7k more! With what i use it for i'm still ahead on the gas engine purchase!
