At least two weekend a month my wife and I tow our roughly 11,000 camper a few hundred miles in and around Northern Kentucky. We dont have "mountains" like they do out west but we do have large hills. After what is now a complete summer of towing our 2012 Ram 2500 with a Cummings and 4.10 rear end I average 13MPG on most trips. This last weekend we went north on 71 and averaged 14MPG. These numbers are taken from filling the truck up, driving to the destination and filling the truck back up and calculating the mileage.
After doing this for a summer our calculations are close to what the truck reads out.
Average tow speed on 71 was 65mph.
