As far as the ongoing argument goes, realistically it boils down to preference. One of these newer big gas trucks rated to tow 12,000 lbs will tow 12,000 lbs pretty well. Not as well as a new diesel, but still pretty well. It seems to me a lot of this argument boils down to the gas owners getting defensive about not having paid extra for the additional power and towing ability of the diesel trucks, and on the flip side the diesel owners getting defensive about whether the extra they paid for the additional power and towing ability was worth it. We're all human, so we've got an inherent need to justify our decisions to ourselves.
