A diesel truck sells new for $9,000 more than the same truck with the gas engine and this is reflected in the prices for used trucks. Diesel trucks are twice as expensive to maintain and the cost to repair them is unbelievable. A new set of injectors will cost $4,000 to $8,000. Blow a head gasket and you can easily find yourself with a $8,000 repair bill. Then there are the problems with finding diesel on the highway and even at gas stations in town, problems with biodiesel and gelling in the winter, poor fuel economy when making trips of less than 30 minutes duration, problems with finding a good repair shop and much more reliance on the dealer for parts and repairs and maintenance.
Spoken like a true internet educated, never owned a diesel, yet know all there is to know about them, diesel hater. Either that, or you made the mistake of owning a 6.0 power stroke. Very entertaining for those of us who know better. It cost me $65 to change my oil, and one $35 fuel filter a year. Other than that, zero extra cost over a gas truck. If you leave it alone, and don't "tune" it, the diesel engine will out live two gas engines, so I'm not seeing the extra cost there either. 19 mpg empty, 11-12 mpg towing with diesel seems to beat 15-16 mpg empty and 7-8 mpg towing with gas. Who has the advantage there? Most all stations have at least one diesel pump, so that is another of your internet myths. Never have had any trouble finding a place to fill up.
While you may appear smart and all knowing to those who don't know any better, you provide some good laughs to those of us who do. Thanks, and keep it coming.
