2011 GMC Sierra 2500HD CCSB 4WD 6.0/6sp/3.73 pulling Arctic Fox 27T. I have not weighed trailer loaded but estimate 8500lbs. The tongue weight is ~1300lbs (weighted on Sherline scale).
With no winds, fairly flat, 9.0-9.5 mpg at 63mph, but it is never just flat and there is always wind blowing.
With winds and some hills, speed is big factor. When I tow at 58mph, I get around 8.5mpg, but at 63mph, I get 7.5mpg.
You will notice that I have the 3.73 gears. Avoid my mistake and get 4.10 gears if you get a gas motor. At least on my GMC, the rpms at the speeds I tow are just outside the sweetspot (either too low or too high rpms depending on trans gear at the time). If I had the 4.10 gears, I would get better mileage. If I had studied a bit more before I ordered my truck I would not have made this mistake. I told my brother about it and he bought a 2013 exactly like mine, only with 4.10 gears. He gets better mileage, partially because of gears and partially because he has a lighter/smaller trailer.
Today's transmissions have double overdrives and in the top gear the rpms are still less than 2000 at freeway speeds when you have 4.10 gears. If you like to run 80mph and higher, then the 4.10 gears may hurt your mileage when doing that.
