I get needing a daily driver that can do the normal stuff. My wife has a 2013 Ford Escape that we use for the vast majority of our stuff. We then have the 2001 Excursion that we use strictly as a tow vehicle. You could get what the wife wants to drive and then save up and pay cash for an older CC 3/4-ton truck / 2500 Suburban / Excursion and just use it as a tow pig.
You have to figure your only going to be towing the camper less than 20 times per year if your a busy family like we are. I wanted a tow vehicle I knew could haul the family safely so I went looking for an older rig versus paying 30-40k for a new vehicle that can do it all.
