I assume you're fuel mileage conscious based on owning a Prius. Bout the only good reason to do so.
While my best mileage vehicle gets 18mpg and that's the truck listed below, and it only goes down from there for the gassers in my stable, I get it. Getting a minivan and a hd pickup, especially a gasser, will take your avg family mpg down below 20 which is considerably less than your current situation. Cheap fuel ain't going to be around forever.
Again you don't say how new of a Durango you're considering, but I don't think it's a bad choice for what you intend to do. Let's you keep the fuel sipper Prius for running around too.
My old boss had a newer Avalanche 5.3 and a mid 2000s Durango 5.7 Hemi. Full size chebbie, "mid" size Durango. Body on frame, big v8, 1/2 ton running gear. He pulled a wake boat, around 6klb, similar tongue weight to a camper. Only missing the massive sail effect of a TT, but that was simulated by hi altitude.
He wouldn't even tow the boat with the full size Avy. Said the Durango spanked it in every respect.
Just food for thought.
