This is getting rediculous...you don't NEED a 3/4 ton truck to tow a 4 or 5 or 7 or in some cases an 8k lb trailer.
If you guys NEED a HD truck to pull a small trailer then there is something very wrong with how you are doing things. If you WANT a HD truck that's one thing. But NEEDING is something totally different.
You guys are doing a disservice by immediately suggesting a HD truck. It's much better practice to teach a new person how to use the equipment they have, how to run tires at max PSI while towing...how to load the truck and trailer, how to set up the WD hitch and sway control...how to weigh the rig (which many have suggested) and let the OP decide for him/herself once they know and understand all the variables.
OP...if you want a 3/4 ton truck...by all means get one...I highly suggest that you get familiar with how things work while towing a Trailer...get familiar with your equipment and learn how to load and adjust your WD hitch. You may well come to the conclusion that you need a HD truck...that's perfectly fine...
Would you be better off starting with a 3/4 ton? absolutely...however you have tens of thousands in a brand new half ton truck that is capable...the set up on the 1500 has to be perfect though.
Really the set up on any truck has to be perfect...Mr Murphy doesn't care what the badge on the side of the truck says. Set up is crucial on any rig...ANY rig.
Thanks!
