just be sure to really work the Diesel.. They need to be really worked.. That little trailer won't work the diesel very hard.
IMHO... be careful of dieselitis.. There is nothing wrong with having a diesel.. Nothing at all.. but they are more expensive upfront and they are more expensive to maintain.
You may want to do a forum search for user ib516 ... he bought a new Ram 2500 with the big 6.4 Gas motor 410 HP and 426 lb ft of tq and 18 MPG on the highway with a tow rating upwards of 13-15k lbs.
plus the coil spring suspension is amazing.
Either choice, gas or diesel, choosing a 3/4 ton truck will give you much more wiggle room on payload. Especially if towing heavy with the 1500 makes you nervous.
