Hot air out the side
Hi I was just wondering if the hot exhaust from the furnace was just wasted heat or is it just stale exhaust? It sure seems to be a lot of heat coming out of there!

Yep.
For combustion, so it isn't robbing air from inside.
I always thought the upper was for exhaust, but on the other hand, I've never yet used my furnace other than to make sure it still works, so your install might be normal.
We always camp in Provincial Parks, and the fee is so high (electrical sites) that I always use electrical heaters (why use my propane when I'm already paying for electricity)
