Hot brakes and Tall trailers

Slightly nose-down is great! You have a nice looking rig as pictured. Hot brakes have a definite easy to recognize smell, so your assessment is likely correct. If you've never checked, or repacked the wheel bearings, that is always a good idea, as mentioned, they often come from the factory with very minimal grease. Most brake controllers come with pretty good instructions, so if you have followed them, it's kind of hard to improve. If your brakes smell hot, even stopping normally on level ground, then may be room for improvement.
