Just replace the check valve with a single throw shutoff valve and close it to winterize. Problem solved forever instead of fixed till the check valve goes again. And it will. JMO
Yeah, I'm sure those engineers that designed the system put that $10 check valve in there instead of a $3 valve because the manufacturers wanted to make less profit. Not because it also keeps cold water from back flowing into the water heater.
