How do disconnect battery cable(s) at airport...

I'll be gone for five days and for some reason the charge in my truck batteries start getting pretty low by the 3rd day if it's not been driven. I have an Edge unit which I only use for the gauges but the screen is dark when the truck is parked. That's the only thing I can imagine is causing a draw. I'd rather just disconnect the cable(s) so I can be sure it will start when I return. Can anyone tell me which cable(s) need to be removed when you have two batteries? (Ford F-250).

Thanks...
  • Our truck sits for a few months at a time when we are out of the country. We got a disconnect and put it on the terminal.

This way we don't need tools.
  • Well you want to disconnect both neg cables. But if the trucks batteries can not hold a charge for five days, you need to buy two new good quality batteries! Any truck/vehicle should be able to sit for 90 days or mare without having to worry about it not starting.

  • It's probably a 1/2" or 9/16" wrench, but it could be several sizes smaller also. Get a little 4" or 6" crescent and that will take care of it. Don't over tighten the clamps when you put them back on. I just grab my little 1/4" socket drive set.

Undo the negative cable, it's safer than undoing the positive cable. If you are using the wrench on the positive cable and the other end of the wrench touches something metal, it will cause a short through the wrench and it won't be pretty.

Ford thinks people drive their vehicles every day so they designed lots little electronics in the system that draw little bit of power all of the time. Both my F250 and Escape have to either have a trickle charger on them or the battery cable disconnected if I'm gone traveling in the MH. So much for professional engineering.......
