How do I remove my AC/heating thermostat cover

My thermostat is a RVP and I am quite sure it needs to be replaced.
The problem is I can't get the cover off.
It is a RVP thermostat and the manual says to hold it by the top and bottom and gently pull away.
I can see the little nibs on the sides of each corner near the back that is holding it to the back plate, but no matter how hard I pull it won't come off, and I am afraid it is going to pull the whole thermostat off the wall.
I tried pushing in on one of the little nibs with a screw driver, but that didn't work.

Any one have the secret to getting it off ?

  • I have the same type (RVP) and worked and worked trying to get the cover off. I ended up using a tiny flathead screwdriver and felt like I was breaking it and it did end up coming off the wall and is hanging by wires currently, but still works. I am going to replace it also. I basically shoved the screwdriver in the small crack you can see where it separates from the back mounted piece. Poking in the 4 small spots that look like it would help doesnt....they are actually clips inside holding the circuit board.

pull foward from the top down

    Thanks,
Ours gave us fits all day yesterday, and would go on and off, and we had to keep lowering the temp setting.
Today it is working fine, (as it is supposed to)

the next time it screws up, I'll try it that way

I guess you didn't look at the make of mine !
It doesn't have any batteries in it, and when I looked at those they are different.

I was hoping and still am that someone with the same thermostat and has taken the cover off will chime in.

They pop off the same way with or without.
  • try a tiny screwdriver where those tabs are amazing how strong those clips are.even if it pops off the wall there should some extra wire.
