how do you carry your stuff in the TC

I just sold my 43 foot toy hauler 5th wheel and am down sizing to a TC. But I am wondering where do you put the camping chairs and coolers and fire wood. How about the generator that I see so many people talk about. I see they say do not get the optional generator and us that spot for storage but then I wonder where do they keep their portable one. I realize that I cannot bring all the stuff I use to bring, that is the point of down sizing but there are a few things that need to be brought. I have been searching for hours and cannot find any forums that talk directly about the big storage problems only the little ones. Thanks for any input.

  • Chairs up on the bed, cooler on the floor or under the dinette. Firewood leave at home or if you must on a front rack. Genset thats a whole other thread. We use the bed for alot and also in the extra cab. Welcome to the board and glad to see another cpl down sizing to a TC.
  • I've seen pictures of platforms that are extended off the back via the tube hitch. Gives you enough room to put a generator or a small motor cycle.. kinda looks like a mini deck off the back.

We have a crew cab with a full backseat (four door)and that's where we stow chairs, tools and extra stuff.

Generator is in the original storage area but we opted for LP and carry two tanks in their TC storage area.
  • I prefer a built in generator. However, Torklift has a new generator hitch attachment. The PDF I'll link to shows bare metal. I have this attachment in the other room. Its powder coat black. Very impressive. I guess you could run two of them? Generator in front, wood in the back?

  • First off, ditch the firewood. Transporting firewood from one location to another helps spread pests that can devastate a new area. Buy it where you burn it and leave what you don't for the next camper. Regarding carrying stuff, you'll need to cut down what you carry and go for smaller more compact items. We got some small REI chairs that fit in the pullout drawer in our Arctic Fox 996 and work well for us. Generator is another subject. Some think you can live without one, others wouldn't even think of ordering the stock one and go with a portable. If you go that route, some carry it in the storage compartment that would house the stock genset. You'll have to decide if you want to carry additional fuel for it, but if you have a gas truck, at least you can use it in a pinch. We have a diesel and didn't want to mess with hauling a gas can so we went with the Onan genset from the factory. Works fine for us, but some say it's too noisy. Granted it is somewhat louder than a nice little Honda portable, but ours beats having to get the portable out, set it up, secure it from theft, refuel it, etc... Ours is push a button and enjoy the A/C or microware. Check my post on under bumper storage or others have mounted boxes to the bumper or put stuff on the roof. There are many ways to carry what you need, enjoy setting up your rig.

I don't believe there is a way. I know I sure would have hugh problems with all my junk. I am thinking the only way out is pull along an enclosed trailer behind the TC...
