I bluntly but politely ask "can I help you" and unless the answer is they want to speak to one of us I tell them to walk around etc. I have explained to newbies that if gear would be stolen they could be implicated because they were on a site they did not rent. Newbies usually say thank you, its the un-parents who can't say no or act like a parent that are less receptive.
