I was looking at the add on ones since my truck didn't come with this option, and think they are a nice idea. However, any thoughts on using one with a cap? May not be as worthwhile then, I'm thinking. Anyone with a cap on the back and a step that can chime in on usefulness?
Uncertain which option you are referring to, OEM or aftermarkert?
Anyway, the Ford OEM tailgate step with a canopy works very well, no problems. The OEM step is well designed, wide and very stable, and works equally well going in and out of the truck bed even with a canopy. I question those who would say an aftermarket step solution for the rear of the truck is better.
IIRC, I believe the reason why the Ford OEM tailgate step is not used by others is that Ford has a patent on it. I don't care for or use the pivoting handle but the step is invaluable.
