My first towing combination was a Montana SV6 and a 17' Jayco Hybrid... In Canada, at Canadian gas prices, it was about $20 of gas / hour of driving.
My second combination was a Trailblazer with a Jayco 19h camper, and that combination was about $20 to $25 / hour of driving. Performance wise, this was an ok combination, lots of 3rd gear.
I changed out the trailblazer for a Silverado Z71, and pulled the 19h a couple of years and was running about $20 to $25 / hour of driving still... But had extra power, and it was way more capable.
To our wisdom, we changed out the 19h for a Whitehawk 29SQB. It was to much camper for the Silverado, and only pulled it once. IT was a way out matched and not enjoyable. I have no records of $/hr for pulling.
To fix the truck "problem", I bought a 2008 F-250 SuperDuty with a 6.4l Diesel. I can pull much better now, lots of room, lots of power, and I'm burning a bit more fuel, I think last years consumption cost was around $25 to $30 / hour of driving.
Last summer, Diesel was about $1.09/l.
Right now Diesel is about $1.25/l, but historically Diesel goes down in price in the summer, (here's to hoping)....
This long story has a quick short-version. If you want to pull a camper about 4 hours of driving, you better have a $100 bill somewhere in your wallet.
Good luck!
