My truck has a 16 gallon tank, I tend to fill at about 9-10 gallons down, so I've been running 160-220 miles between fills. I need to stop every 2-3 hours anyway, why not at a travel plaza. Towing a PUP or small TT cuts the mileage to about half, so I'm about 100 miles between stops. It does take some planning, I can get caught too low without a place to fill, thus my tendency to stop next place available once I'm down half a tank.
If you are thinking about a larger TT, or fiver, the larger truck needed to pull it is going to have a 25-30 gallon tank. HD trucks with full-length beds might be more than 40 gallons capacity.
But I see where you are coming from, probably used to a 50-100 gallon tank. My C (55 gallon tank) runs about 8-9 mpg on the highway, and when traveling I like to fill at 30 gallons down (so as to not get to the generator's cutoff fuel level), thus 240-270 miles. I'll go 300-350 if I'm not running the genset, and stretch it to 40 gallons. I try to plan my motorhome travel days with for one fill a day, but sometimes on the long run home there may be 600 mile days.
