Now that we have established LEGALITY, it is time to discuss safety and intelligence. What is the limiting factor of your axle rating? What size wheels and tires do you? Are their any MECHANICAL differences between the 2500 and 3500 in your model year? What is the axle rating of the 3500 truck? 1400 lbs is a substantial uptick in weight, but your axle may be sufficiently strong to handle those weights. I don't know enough about your model year to make an educated guess though.
I agree with all points, I'll look into the axle rating of my particular truck. Tires are rated to 7500lbs, wheels slightly higher so I'm good there. I'm just overall looking to ensure I'm not being an idiot, and also not looking to spend $25,000+ on truck upgrades when not needed.
