And for the WP that want to talk about stopping. News flash: The trailer brakes stop the trailer.
Your newsflash is just a myth.
If you think the electro magnetic brakes stop the trailer on their own
you're kidding yourself.
Upgrade the trailer to disc brakes and you will feel how poorly the typical OEM brakes perform. A trailer with disc brakes may actually be capable of stopping itself
Tow the same trailer with a dually and you will feel the improved braking performance the dually provides.
To the OP you've done a lot of rationalizing and added a lot of gizmo's to your truck.
But in the end as you are aware the math does not work in your favor.
You can either believe the number and upgrade trucks or ignore them, cross your fingers and go for it.
I think the math is quickly pointing me in the direction of the new truck.
Question though, you mention the brakes not stopping the trailer, that hasn't been the case in my experience, maybe just good brakes??
Depending on the trailer I've got behind me, I often have the brake controller (Prodigy P3) set as low as 7-8 volts max as any higher I can quite literally feel the trailer slowing the truck down. Granted I'm sure at 65mph slamming on the brakes to avoid something major that may change (fortunately haven't experienced that)
News flash, brakes are the same on a 3500....
You'll get many opinions to support your purchase of a new heavier truck and many to support that you're fine as is.
