That's precisely what is confusing me on this. I have found trailers that have a dry hitch weight (yes I am aware that the dry hitch weight will be higher once it is loaded) of 9.5% and others that are 11.5%... none that are 15. So I'm confused on why everyone is saying 15%. Perhaps it happens to be the make/series of TT we are looking at?
No, it is because you should be loading toward the front of the trailer, to keep the tongue weight. Be aware that these calculations depend on various peoples opinions, not proven bright-line effects. It's not like 100 lbs is guaranteed safe and 101 lbs instantly breaks.
