We had a '76 Impala in the family for 21 model years. It was still towing at 20 years. Sadly where I live we have long winters and in the past 30 years they use salt out here. Rust killed it, although the 350 engine went into an '81 Firebird, the rad and transmission into a Chevy pickup and the electronic ignition onto a Nova street rod.
We had a '89 Cavalier wagon, 2.8 L V6, HD suspension factory order. Lasted 14 years before rust got it. Had a '97 Astro, rustproofed it so the rust wouldn't get it...it was taken out in an accident after 10 years. Body was not rusted though.
Have an 2007 Buick 6 passenger sedan. Still running, 90 degree Buick 3.8 liter V6 rust proofed...body fine, mechanics fine. Going on 12 model years old soon.
Have a 2015 Impala (new style), 3.6 liter V6, 6 speed AT. Rust proofed, running fine, no issues.
Like the 2015 Impala, but may trade it in early. Want an SUV with good power. Like SUV as want rear door able to open to flat floor so I can slide groceries etc...in and out without raising over a sedan raised trunk panel. Also intend to do more traveling during winter (visiting kids in different parts of country) so want AWD.
My wants/needs are changing as I'm starting to feel the effects of aging. So ease of loading/unloading important, want AWD/4WD to lessen chance of getting stuck in winter.
But will get new vehicle rustproofed for reasons of extending life of vehicle if we keep it an extended time. Also extended warranty a must, with cost of labour / parts nowadays and I know my limitations. I'm no mechanic or electrical tech. Also I want to fix my costs as long as I can...want no unexpected 'surprises' with no warranty left.
