drive them till the wheels fall off
Problem is that some of us have the ability to keep putting them back on so they never really fall off for good.
I've finally retired my 33 year old Toyota pickup due to frame rot. We'll I actually welded some scab plates over the rust holes to squeak a few more years out of the vehicle, but it's retired now...until I return the US and then I might drive it again for a few more months...before retiring it for good...maybe.
I like my old truck and enjoy driving it. It's hard to give up on an old friend and even after 23 years, I've been legally obligated to my truck longer than I've been legally obligated to my wife, if only by a few months.
