Reading some reviews about Surge Protectors, looking at the one that can be reset, several people that posted reviews say they like the product, but don't last much over the 12 month warranty to around a 2 yr max. and most that posted said only using the product 6 to 9 times a yr.
Hate to spend $250- $300 dollars if only going to last that long, or are the posts the minority not the majority.
Clearly you don't understand that an EMS / surge protector is designed to be sacrificial and therefore designed to "fail" under some circumstances, thereby preventing damage to your trailer's electrical system. By offering a lifetime warranty Progressive Industries is taking the next logical step in customer care as they know that over the course of any business year a certain number of units will be returned for repair. Most often what fails are the MOVs (Metal Oxide Varistors) which are the key component in the surge protector section of the EMS and which by their nature do degrade each time they do their job of shunting excessive spikes to ground, thereby preventing those spikes from damaging your trailer. Given sufficient hits the MOVs will fail completely and will require replacement under Progressives's lifetime warranty. If you buy a portable unit it will have to be returned to Progressive for service as it's a sealed unit while the hardwire models are field servicable, meaning that if it fails Progressive will simply mail you the replacement parts that you can install yourself. Make no mistake - the fact that these units are designed to "fail" under some circumstances is a GOOD thing, not bad as you (and many others) appear to believe.
