Effective protectors do not fail. Grossly undersized protectors (with obscene profit margins) fail.
This discussion is about RV specific EMS / surge protectors from manufacturers such as TRC and Progressive, not home protection devices that vary considerably in design and cost. Despite being well designed for the specific purpose of helping to protect a recreational vehicle's electrical system from any one of a number of line vagaries a certain number of both TRC and Progressive units will eventually fail so to say that "effective protectors do not fail" is simply a misstatement of fact and should not infer that failure is a result of inadequate design.
Long before assuming all anomalies are 'surges', instead define and discuss each anomaly separately.
If you're referring to me I'm not "assuming" anything as any discussion of the type you're suggesting is far beyond the capability (and in fact interest) of the vast majority reading this thread. Eyes are already glassing over, leaving some with the false impression that EMS / surge protectors of the type we're discussing aren't reliable ... in fact they are, in fact they can be quite effective for the purpose for which they're designed, but like anything they're not infallible and anyone assuming so (such as the OP) is simply misinformed.
