I could however see, after many years of driving with a round steering wheel, grabbing for it in a microsecond reaction to something.
I never said anything about the cause of the accident specifically. He was on an on ramp driving too fast and got onto the edge and went down onto the frontage road. He is actually a very good driver but reaching for the part of the wheel that was not where it normally is factored greatly into the crash. One day and totaled 150k car, ouch!!!
It's called "muscle memory" and you do what's natural when in defense mode.
