I prefer the 8 foot bed. You can simply do more with the larger bed.

If OP is calling "standard bed", a bed under 8', I'd recommend what others are talking about, a B&W or some type of slider hitch...if using a "short bed" truck, better to have a slider type hitch and never need it, then to not have one and need it.
To the OP, what is GVW of the 5er? No one has asked, I don't think and just curious as to the 5ers GVW and what it's pin weight might be. Just curious.
