I bought my first 8' bed in 2003 and said then I wouldn't go back to a short bed. The extra 1.5 feet do not bother me at all driving or parking but sure does make a big difference having my tool box mounted and still having a full bed. Especially when loaded to go camping.
I don't have a tool box in my truck because I don't need it but my FIL does and has no problem with his fifth wheel hitch fitting also. Get this, he also carries extra fuel and fire wood with his 6.5' bed.
If it makes you feel more like a man to have a long bed truck then have at it. I drive a long truck for work and is my daily driver and I just prefer a 6.5' bed on my personal truck.
