I towed previously with a short bed 2003 Ram Crew Cab. I also hit the cab twice. I added a king pin extender, they are around $400 new and this solved the problem. They are made for that purpose and are ok'd by Lippert. The only thing I had to do was raise my 5er which was accomplished fairly easy. You also need to tow without your factory tail gate in place. I now tow with a long bed dually and would not go back. That being said if you are intrested in the king pin extender you can review them on line.
