When the temps got down to single digits we burned 3 gallons a day. We have two 40 lb tanks (9.4 gal each). Our Excel is supposedly good at temps of -10 degrees. We use electric for above 30 degree temps because we don't have to worry about basement stuff at those temps. Can't use both electric and furnace because the furnace thermostat won't cut on with electric heat running. I have a small electric heater in the basement (1000 watts) but I felt like it wasn't enough in single digit temps so we run the furnace to insure basement stays above freezing. Excel won't guarantee the -10 degree unless the furnace is used at subzero temps.
