How much time/money to install OEM brake controller on Ram?

As mentioned in separate post, just picked up a 2016 Ram 1500 (haven't yet updated profile)...truck did not come equipped with factory integrated brake controller...the possibility of having an OEM unit installed as an accessory not having dawned on me at time of purchase, I had an aftermarket brake controller installed at another place...thanks to all who suggested getting the factory unit as an after-purchase item.

Here's the questions...what would be the cost to buy/have dealer installation of the OEM unit? How much time would it take? Best to have the aftermarket unit that's currently installed, pulled before taking the truck to the dealership for the OEM controller, or can dealer techs do the removal of the current unit as well as installation of the new one?
Thanks

if you already have an aftermarket installed... use it.

Dodge does not make there brake controllers... someone else does.. under the Dodge name..

Just like Ford and GM...and the NEW "RAM" Company.

The difference being the factory controller is integrated into the braking system, and varies its output according to pedal pressure

Most aftermarket rely on an inertial sensor to determine braking power. they work pretty good, but can be fooled by inclines, strong bumps, etc.

  • Check with your local dealer for prices. Our dealer quoted $499.00 install to a guy standing next to us at the service desk. Our Ram already had the OEM brake controller and it works great.
