I'd wax it once a year to help protect it. Since it's under a car port, you shouldn't have to wash it often. Just when it looks dirty or after a trip.
As for the roof, do you know if it's a walkable roof? If so, it should be able to handle your weight fine. If not, or if you don't feel comfortable testing it, get a piece of plywood to stand or lie down on to help spread out the weight while up there. Some walkable roofs are strong enough that you can grab a chair and hang out up there. Check with the manufacturer to be sure.
