buzz...I didn't see how you carry your boats, what we do is put them upright on the roof. Paddles, pfd's, fishing gear, dolly (if we bring it) go inside the boats. All securely fastened.
The weight of all this stuff is minimal.
I can actually "stuff" the boats full of gear on the ground, haul them up with bow line and strap down to the racks. It's pretty easy.
If you carry your boats upside down...you might consider flipping them...
